If the roof is leaking right now
- 1 Put a bucket under the drip and move furniture, rugs and electronics out of the wet area.
- 2 If water is near a light fixture, outlet, ceiling fan or the electrical panel, switch off that circuit at the breaker.
- 3 Stay off the roof. Wet shingles, metal and tile are slippery, and storm-damaged roofs have loose parts.
- 4 Photograph the ceiling, the water and anything that fell, before cleaning up, for your insurance claim.
- 5 Tell us the neighborhood, the roof type and where the water shows so the first visit brings the right materials to dry it in.
